Castello di Montegufoni
April 21, 2019
What better way to spend Easter than lazing the day away in our own castle. When you book out an entire wing, you naturally have to maximize your stay by dedicating a full day to doing absolutely nothing but lounge around the castle grounds. So that’s what we did. Because when else will this happen again? Not in the foreseeable future, that’s for sure. Maybe this is a once in a lifetime kind of thing and best believe I was living my ultimate princess/aristocrat fantasy.
I remember one of the thoughts that crossed my mind while chilling poolside was how many people have gone through the halls of Castello di Montegufoni. It was built sometime in the 10th to 11th century. That’s a full millennium of existing! I’m pretty sure this building has witnessed a lot. If only walls could talk! Fun fact: during WW II, Montegufoni housed some valuable works of Renaissance art which were transferred from Florence's main museums. History is so fascinating. And now, for a brief moment in 2019, we were part of the castle’s history. And if these walls could talk, it would say that once upon a memory, a family of 5 briefly lived in this castle. They filled these halls with a funny language and their days were always full of laughter and love.
