Museo Ferrari

For this leg of the trip, we rented a van so we could drive ourselves around Tuscany and explore at our own pace. First stop, Museo Ferrari!

When we started planning this trip, I asked everyone what their must-see destinations in Italy were. Museo Ferarri was the only one on my brother’s list. So naturally, we had to dedicate a day for this. We went to both museums in Maranello and Modena and we also joined the factory tour.

For as long as I can remember, my kuya. has always loved cars. First, it was Matchbox. Every time our mom would come home from a business trip, she’d bring back a couple of cars as pasalubong. As we got older, the toy (he’ll probably correct me for using this word) cars were exchanged for pencils. He was constantly sketching and drawing in his blue corona sketch pads. I remember sneakily rifling through his sketchbooks - “sneakily” because like all sister, I wasn’t allowed to touch my brother’s things, and I would find page upon page of different cars sketches. I was too young to appreciate it back then but seeing the illustrations at the museum jolted my memory and I realized how truly gifted my brother is. For a high school kid to illustrate professional level renderings is pretty remarkable, no? Maybe I’ll try to dig up some of his sketches and add it to this post.

So to say this day was awesome for him would be an an understatement. He was like a kid in a candy shop. He looked at engines and wheels with as much enthusiasm as he would look at a complete car. The same kind of enthusiasm my sister-in-law has every time we enter a pasticceria (or anything that involves food, really) and how I imagine I looked when I was in all those fashion galleries. It’s truly special to see someone light up in that way. No purer joy than someone absorbed in a world they’re so passionate about and I’m glad I got to be in my brother’s that day.
