Museo Salvatore Ferragamo
April 17, 2019
As luck would have it, the museum’s exhibition at that time of our visit was Sustainable Thinking - a topic I’m keen to learn more about (especially for the brand that I’m working on.) The deeper I go into my research, the more I find there’s no one way to go about sustainability. While some opt to focus on returning to nature with the use of organic materials, others seek out creative re-use of existing clothing in the form of upcycling or secondhand resale. Whichever path a brand embarks on, the key takeaway is that the fashion industry is in need of change and that sustainability is the next movement. A year later from this exhibition and it is apparent more than ever that the current system no longer works. This global pandemic has challenged the status quo but with it also comes the opportunity to completely reset and reshape the industry. For me (and my brand) to be a part of this change is so exciting!
Ended the visit by buying my mom a birthday gift - a special silk scarf print from Ferragamo that’s only sold in Italy. Seems like the perfect gift to commemorate this momentous trip.
