Lake Sebu
Finally got around to posting photos from this 2015 trip - the same one I mentioned from my Reintroduction post that served as a catalyst for me. This was my first time traveling to Mindanao and also my first work week for Filip + Inna, a local brand that works with indigenous groups from all over the Philippines.
This trip came at a time when I was feeling a little lost with my career. As much as I love fashion and styling, I felt like I wasn’t contributing anything of substance to the world. In the greater scheme of things, my job serves no higher purpose than dressing human dolls and making pretty images. Which, don’t get me wrong, I love and thoroughly enjoy doing. It’s a deeply gratifying process when an entire vision comes together but being a millennial who grew up reading YA novels wherein the youth always saved the day, I was looking for something more meaningful. This trip opened my eyes to the possibility of creating something significant and important. That fashion can and should always have a voice and point of view, a “why” so compelling that it drives the company’s entire being and purpose.
It’s been exactly 5 years since this trip. And as it happens, I’m currently working on my own brand under B/C Style Studio. Nothing like F+I, of course. But deeply rooted in Filipino culture as well. We were so excited to launch this year, but as luck would have it, COVID-19 broke out and we decided to postpone the launch. We’ve always had perfect timing when it comes to our brand though so I’d like to believe that this delay happened for a reason. So for now, sharing and reliving this trip until I can freely talk about our own brand ✨
